Open Day

I was impressed by the lecturer’s presentation, which included an explanation of montage which I am already familiar with through my Extend BTEC Diploma at Burton College. It was interesting to see an example of a short film made by one of the course students. The concept was good and the story line had a twist which I like to see in films. If this is the type of film I can make at Manchester Metropolitan Uni, then this will fulfil my expectations of a Film making course.

I liked the fact that two ex-students were there to contribute and demonstrate how they have progressed since they graduated and it showed me that it is possible to have a career in the media industry, which is my ultimate goal.

The online cinema was appealing because you can place your films on there for others to view plus you can gain valuable tips from viewing other students’ work. I am good team player and like the concept of sharing ideas with others who may have different skill set to me.

The lecturer was a good presenter and seemed to be the type of person that I would work well with and he convinced me even more that I wanted to get involved in film making at a degree level.

It is key to me that in the second year, I can get involved in personal filmmaking and play to my own strengths i.e. towards the role of director or scriptwriter which are two of preferred roles.

MMU Cinema Online

I watched ‘Colour Blind’. The story interested me from reading the synopsis. The title and the cover caught my eye. I wanted to watch it as it looked and sounded gritty, with modern day issues. I like the message that you should never judge people by their front cover. The thing I most liked was the shaking effect and the heart beat, revealing why he is running to save a woman. I liked it in Black and White because it worked with the title ‘Colour Blind’. Police/citizens are prejudiced as they can’t tell what Black and White is.

An Eye for An Eye - Short Film

A Miscellaneous Films third short film. This is a Murder Mystery Noir Film with a different twist. The Host of the party, Mr Nobody has been murdered by one of his own guests. Scott Eagle, a Private Detective investigates his murder and must catch the murderer before there will be anymore murders. This time we had a bigger crew helping out as it was a big cast. My role was the Script Writer, Director and Editor; I also organized the actors and the location. We focused the camera on the detective and suspect to make the suspect feel cornered.

Marley Butler ft Jamie Osborne - Nothing Destroys Itself Music Video

A Miscellaneous Films first music video that has a story. About a musician doing gigs but not getting anywhere. Having problems with money, his Girlfriend wants him to get a proper job and stop his music; but he doesn’t want to do it so she kicks him out. He’s in the deep end, making an important choice in his life. The concept was partly mine, I shared directing and. I did some of the lighting. All the scenes were done at night for darkness/depressing atmosphere and close-up shots of the musician’s face to show his emotion.

Break the Silence - Short Film

A Miscellaneous Films second short film. We follow Ben, attempting to cope with life after going deaf and how the chain reaction affects more than just his hearing. Destroying the things he loves the most. I wrote the script and acted as Ben’s friend Joe. I do like acting but I prefer being a scriptwriter and director. The film shows how Ben feels isolated from the things he loves like hearing music and playing his guitar and not being able to have a proper conversation with his friends. At the start we wanted sound then for the character no sound until the end.

Plan B - Traded in my Cigarettes Music Video

From Plan B’s album ‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’. His music videos are focused on one character ‘Strickland Banks’. This was my first music video. So I took this character and song which hasn't got a music video. I came up with the idea, directed it, edited it and I acted as Strickland Banks (Plan B). This is the prequel music video. There is an intro and outro as it’s like a short film with dialogue. The story is about Strickland Banks not being able to pay back a Loan Shark for using his money to make an album.

My Double - Short Film

This is about this lonely Tim, a nerd who always follows the book. A boring person but his ‘Double’ Simon is the complete opposite. Like a couple, Tim and Simon argue at night, dealing with their problems. Miscellaneous Films is my production company with my two friends and this is our first Short Film that we made. I came up with the idea and wrote the script with the director. We had one location – the kitchen which is like the character’s mind i.e. in a bubble; as it’s the only way that Tim and Simon can talk to one another.
